ESDiT Event

Start date: October 2, 2024
End date: December 10, 2024
All-day event
Location: University of Twente
Academic event | Art track | Public ESDIT event

ESDiT Art Track’s Fellows are organizing the ESDiT exhibition, which will open during the ESDiT/4TUEthics “Rethinking Ethics—Reimagining Technology” conference on 2 October and close on 10 December.

The exhibition, hosted by the University of Twente, approaches art as a form of philosophy of technology. Through the exhibition and related conference program, we’re investigating how art raises and shapes ethical and philosophical questions about technology. What kind of knowledge is produced through the artistic process? How does the experience of artworks help us think about certain philosophical concepts, such as disruption? And how can artists and philosophers learn from each other?
With the exhibition, we aim to foster an exchange between philosophers of technology, artists, and the general public.

The ESDiT exhibition is a group exhibition of 12 artists, of whom 4 are ESDiT fellows. All the artists are in direct relationships with ESDiT members – or our partners, Waag and 4TU Ethics. The committee has selected evocative work that conveys the breadth of ESDiT research (human line, society line, nature line, and F&S line).

Four artists will exhibit their work directly at UT’s DesignLab, the ESDiT/4TUEthics conference venue, for the duration of the conference. Their works are interactive installations, and the artists will be present to discuss their work with you. In addition, there will be an exhibition at the Vrijhoff, UT’s campus exhibition space from 2 October to 10 December.

Conference participation
All artists but two will be present during the ESDiT/4TU.Ethics conference and three conference activities will be dedicated to the exhibition:

  • A panel about the artistic process as research from the perspective of artists and artist-philosophers.
  • A panel about collaboration with artists, building on the experience of such transdisciplinary teams.
  • Opening night: the Vrijhof exhibition will open on the evening of the first day of the conference. This will be a joint opening of the exhibition and the conference and is one of the main conference activities to which all conference participants are invited. There will be a reception in the Theatre Café in the Vrijhof building.
