The fourth session of the Winter 2024 Webinar Series organised by the Conceptual Engineering for Emerging Technologies (CEET) initiative took place on 07 March.

A panel featuring Luciano Siebert (TU Delft), Giulio Mecacci (Radboud University), Ibo van De Poel (TU Delft) and Herman Veluwenkamp (University of Groningen) met to explore how conceptual engineering can be integrated in the design of new technologies, which might disrupt existing concepts – as discussed in the previous session. The session also introduced the design-for-values approach, integrating moral values in the design of new technologies, while showing how conceptual engineering can be integrated in design for values. This was illustrated with the example of the new concept of ‘meaningful human control’, developed to deal with some of the ethical challenges brought by technologies such as drones, self-driving cars and artificial intelligence.

The CEET initiative is a joint venture by the Conceptual Engineering Network, the ESDIT Consortium, HKU’s AI&Humanity Lab, and ConceptLab HK. CEET aims to promote the application of conceptual engineering to transformations induced by emerging technologies.

The Winter 2024 webinar series includes panels, mini-workshops, and lectures whose recording are published on the Conceptual Engineering YouTube channel.
